Our Story

At Black Drop, we are a passionate team of biomedical engineers and biotech professionals dedicated to building advanced 3D bioprinting research tools for scientists worldwide.

Founded in Germany, we have a lab in Darmstadt and have expanded to Portugal, where we have an additional office in Porto.

Starting with a small 3D bioprinter, we have grown over the years to offer customized 3D printers, including our best-in-class Regenate, a highly modular 3D printer. Our portfolio also includes a variety of bioinks and, more recently, organ-on-a-chip technology.

We work with distributors around the world to ensure our products are accessible to researchers and scientists, no matter where they are.

Our mission is to create tools that advance scientific discovery today while paving the way for life-saving applications in the future. We are committed to saving lives now by providing innovative solutions for alternative research, significantly reducing the need for animal testing.

Black Drop aims to provide bioprinting solutions that minimize animal use in research today, while in the future, we aspire to bring tissue engineering therapies to patients.

What We Do

At Black Drop, we develop customized 3D bioprinters and bioinks, as well as lab-on-a-chip technology. We are a manufacturer, developer, and service provider for 3D bioprinting, offering process development and biomaterial-related services.

Our expertise includes bioprinting hardware and software, along with biofunctional bioinks, such as natural, plant-based, synthetic, UV-curable, and protein-based hydrogels. We are also looking to connect with potential partners for the development of new applications.

Central to our approach is a customer-focused mindset, a visionary outlook, and a commitment to developing user-friendly software that enhances accuracy and repeatability in research.

Modularity is our mantra; our products are designed to be adaptable, allowing scientists to tailor their equipment to their unique research needs. Whether our clients are just starting with 3D bioprinting, transitioning from 2D to 3D models, or are experienced researchers we offer modular bioprinters that can evolve alongside their expertise. This flexibility extends to our software, which is customized based on client requirements to ensure a seamless experience without unnecessary complexity.

Our dedicated team of engineers and scientific experts is committed to assisting the scientific community in pushing the boundaries of what is possible with 3D bioprinting through tailored consulting and educational sessions.
